RELEASE INFORMATION BAIL BONDS
"I've never done this beforeā¦"
We understand that having a friend or a family member in jail can be a trying experience which requires your time, money and patience. The Booking Clerk's primary duty is to assist with posting bail, release forms and to provide information on how to get someone released from jail.
City Release methods include: (1) posting the full amount of the bond in case; (2) an Attorney's Affidavit; (3) Surety Bonds; (4) Pre-trial release.
The Booking Clerk is unable to suggest an Attorney or Surety Bondsman for you to use, please refer to the yellow pages under Attorney's or Bail for use of their services if needed.
All prisoners are released at the David L. Moss Correctional Facility.
"WHY IS HE/SHE IN JAIL?"
There are three (3) basic reasons anyone is held in jail on City charges: (1) for bail on a pending Court Appearance; (2) payment of a fine after a court appearance; and (3) for days in jail after a court appearance and jail sentence has been imposed.
Payment of fines may be made 24 hours a day to the City Court Clerk or may be served out at the rate of $15 per day regular time, or $25 per day trusty time.
"WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG?"
The Police Officer completes a minimum of three (3) reports before they can deliver any person to jail. Other possible factors include the distance traveled and how busy the booking facility may be at the present time. Also, the booking procedure must be completed before our clerk can receive the information on what the charge is and what is required to obtain a release.
"WHEN DOES HE/SHE HAVE TO GO TO COURT?"
All persons set for Municipal Court will be issued a colored card during the booking process. This card will include information on the date to appear for Court, as well as listing the 8:30 a.m. arraignment time and the Court location: Second Floor, Police/Court Building, 600 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK 74103.
Do not miss your court date. No one may appear in your place, except a licensed attorney. FAILURE TO APPEAR WILL RESULT IN A WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST. If your court date is missed, you will need to appear at Room 220, WARRANT OFFICE, between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m., Monday-Friday. YOU MUST BE ON TIME. Allow yourself extra time in case you can't find a parking place. No Children are allowed in the courtroom, so please arrange for their care.
DRESS APPROPRIATELY. Shorts, skorts and tank tops, etc., are not permitted in the courtroom.
"WHEN CAN I GET MY BOND MONEY BACK?"
Once a cash bond has been posted, it will remain posted and held until it is released by judicial order. If a plea of guilty or nolo is entered, the bond can be used to pay the fine and costs or returned by check to the cash bondsman.
FAILURE TO APPEAR FOR ANY SCHEDULED COURT APPEARANCE SHALL RESULT IN THE FORFEITURE (LOSS) OF THE BOND AND THE ISSUANCE OF A BENCH WARRANT.
